As a child, Catherine Zeta-Jones, the middle child of David, who dealt in candy, and Patricia Jones, a seamstress and homemaker, has a love for movie-musicals. “I was really hyperactive as a kid and no one knew how or where I got all this energy,” Zeta-Jones tells Newsday in 1999. “Anyway, they had to harness all this craziness, so I started taking lessons when I was four. And by the time I was 11, I was doing musicals on stage.” By 12, she’s a British national tap dance champ, and her parents let her live in London with a tutor and perform in shows like Annie and 42nd Street (left).

Did drummer Gil Sharone leave Dillinger Escape Plan? That’s the rumor, but confirmation has yet to come from either the band or Sharone himself. On Dillinger’s MySpace page, in a blog post titled “It’s true,” the band simply wrote, ” … everybody loves a rumor.” And that rumor suggests Sharone has rejoined his old band, Stolen Babies, and that DEP have been talking to Raanen Bozzio — son of drummer Terry Bozzio — about taking over behind the kit. Only time will tell if there is any truth to all of this, but we’ll keep you posted. …

The pregnancy doesn’t come as a major surprise: The pair began talking kids right after their wedding, with Brooke joking that she wanted triplets. “Could you imagine if I really had triplets?” she told Extra in June. “He’d be like, ‘Whoa!’”
The couple were married in front of about 60 close friends and family at a private estate in Los Angeles in May. Earlier this month, Sheen, 42, reflected on married life with Brooke, saying it’s “fabulous.” He added, “We’re having a ball. I’m the luckiest man in the world.”

Lil Wayne Flies Overnight From VMAs To New York Court Date
Lil Wayne may have missed a recent court date in Arizona because of his dentist, but the 2008 Video Music Awards weren’t going to keep him from making a scheduled court hearing in New York early Monday afternoon (September 8).
Fresh from his VMA performance and Moonman win for Best Hip-Hop Video in Hollywood on Sunday night, Wayne appeared in a Manhattan courtroom for a hearing related to his 2007 arrest on a single gun charge.

Not to be outdone, Pink’s run through her new single, “So What,” was all platinum-blond hair and balls of fire. Starting out on a tenement stoop and wearing an electric-blue trench coat, the singer slid down a white rope to the ground and proceeded to wreck the set — literally. In order, she: smashed a mirror, tossed a guy down some subway steps, smashed a window and made a building blow up, caused oil drums to explode as she walked down the street with her girls, and capped it off by stripping down into a barely there black leotard cut down to … there.
And while the Jonas Brothers marked their first VMA performance by keeping their clothes on, they got things equally sweaty. Performing on a New York City set on the backlot of the Paramount studios, they started off plucking away at their new ballad, “Lovebug,” on a set of brownstone steps. Halfway in, the steps gave way to a stage as hundreds of screaming girls surrounded them and hung from fake windows as the song exploded into a power-pop rocker.
Among the other awards handed out over the course of the evening was Best Dancing in a Video to the Pussycat Dolls for “When I Grow Up.”

First, the campaign of Republican presidential nominee John McCain angered the members of Van Halen. Then, about a week later, it incensed Heart. Now, the campaign has raised the ire of Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters.
In a statement issued by the band’s publicist Wednesday morning (October 8), the Foo Fighters slammed the McCain camp for its unauthorized use of the group’s 1997 hit single “My Hero” as its latest campaign theme tune.
“This isn’t the first time the McCain campaign has used a song without making any attempt to get approval or permission from the artist,” the statement reads. “It’s frustrating and infuriating that someone who claims to speak for the American people would repeatedly show such little respect for creativity and intellectual property. The saddest thing about this is that ‘My Hero’ was written as a celebration of the common man and his extraordinary potential. To have it appropriated without our knowledge and used in a manner that perverts the original sentiment of the lyric just tarnishes the song. We hope that the McCain campaign will do the right thing and stop using our song — and start asking artists’ permission in general.”
The band issued the statement after receiving press reports that McCain had been using “My Hero” as the “latest in a number of unauthorized theme songs at his campaign rallies,” without seeking permission from the band, its management, record label or the song’s publisher.

Zeta-Jones, 15, quits school and leaves home for London. “I remember growing up knowing I wanted to be on the stage,” she tells the Ottawa Sun in 2002. “I wanted to get to London as soon as possible and start auditioning for theater.” Zeta-Jones (pictured with her parents) adds to Harper’s Bazaar in 2000, “My life was my work. “It was never supposed to be on my album,” Pain said Tuesday in the MTV News office, wearing a purple top hat and matching shirt. “The record, it got leaked, then me and Kirk Franklin had to talk. He was doing most of the talking. He was saying it wasn’t no disrespect. He was saying he knows how songs get leaked. He had it happen to him before. He said he wasn’t a saint, and it wasn’t like he never did nothing wrong. It’s not like [Kirk] said I did something wrong. It’s about all the things that people imagine about me in their minds. But I can’t satisfy everyone. I know that Jay and I probably do inspire people. And I appreciate people feeling proud. But this is the only way I’ve been able to stay sane, so why would I start talking now?

The club she played, a relatively new venue called Le Poisson Rouge, was ideal for her current show, which is very straightforward. Some 600 people were arrayed at tables and up on risers around a circular stage in the middle of the room. The high-end lighting technology seemed to reflect the state of that particular art, and the sound system was that rare thing, a model of both bone-shivering power and absolute clarity. Since Li’s music includes some subtle details that might otherwise go missing, this was a perfect environment.
